The Mission

The Manheim Township Police K-9 unit consists of four dual purpose dogs. The purpose of the unit is to enhance the department's efforts in crime prevention and detection, criminal apprehension, and service to the community.

It's the K-9 unit's duty to support patrol officers and other law enforcement agencies in efforts to detect and identify controlled substances and explosives.  They can also track suspects and missing persons and find potential evidence.

Another goal of the K-9 program is to familiarize law enforcement personnel with the capabilites and limitations of police canines and promote positive public relations.

All K-9 Teams are certified through the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA)
